CUBE PROJECT
The design for the cube project is based on the idea of a sanctuary, creating an inspiring and mindful space for reconnection to the self. The sanctuary concept relates to the site by taking advantage of the land’s elevation to establish privacy for the structure and mimicking the flat roof line and light exterior similar to surrounding buildings.

COLOR
A stained-glass window featured at the south corner of the structure produces a soft interplay with light and color. The circular seating arrangement coupled with shifting light allows the visitor to have an ever-shifting view of the space.

AIR + LIGHT
Natural light pours in from the elevated roof and the windows surrounding the perimeter of the structure. Air flow is maintained through the floating roof and singular opening positioned at the north corner entrance. The simplicity of the open interior is reflected in the cylindrical concrete slab seating in the center of the space. The exterior features angular walls that serve as a protective armor for students seeking a safe, well-lit space for contemplation. When viewing the structure from the east or west side of the building, visibility into the space is obstructed, which further enhances the space’s private nature.
